Though what grinds people's gears (I think) about him isn't his backstabbing tendencies, but rather the party's response to it (they should have toned down his betrayal streak though). Like - and I recently thought about some of those - Jude's (and Milla's branching into Jude's, but I forgot what it was about) should have been part of Xillia 2's plot, and Presa's should have been as well in Xillia 1, to make the party question Alvin'sintentions. One of the problems with Xillia² is that, as far as I'm concerned, all their plot beats and backstories are actually good, but they're either damaged at some points by not fully using their villains, like Xillia 1 Nachtigal and Gilland, (at least Nachtigal got to display his mad king grindset), by the plot's structure (Xillia 2 chapters and locking members into chapters) and pushing genuinely good arcs/backstories into character episodes (Xillia ² as a whole).
